Have yourself a vintage Christmas!

With exactly 2 weeks before my first winter Christmas, I thought I'd devote this blog post to a very new holiday experience. I've never witnessed a Norther hemisphere winter before and always wondered about a few fashion trends such as the Christmas sweater fad and what it's like to celebrate and have a Christmas party in the cooler weather.

So why not have yourself a vintage Christmas? Isn't that what Bing and Frank sing about? ;)

I managed to get my hands on a few "ugly" christmas sweaters in the lead up to the holidays and they have shown to be quite popular with many followers saving them as favourites on Etsy or liking them in my Depop shop but maybe reluctant to buy them as really they only serve purpose for the couple of weeks before Christmas day.

Getting in the spirit of things, I've asked my husband if we could take at least one family portrait of us all (my toddler included) in our sweaters hehe. Nothing like a bit of humour to celebrate our first December winter together! And with the holiday season, brings the parties, whether these be work or friend associated, it's fun to be able to put together a holiday outfit for any kind of party.

My husbands work (Linkedin) celebrated the end to their year with their holiday party theme being your favourite music genre. I'm a lover of all genre's and periods, but one of my favourite music era's was surely the 1950's. It was the birth of rock n roll, blues and "the devil's music" and along with it, some beautiful fashion. So I've decided to ode my outfit to the rock'n 50's with a slightly modern flair. With a green velvet swing dress, caramel fur stole (which I was told may be contravesial) and accents of brown and gold, accompanied with my Christmas tree tights, I'm hoping I can pull off this look for what seems to be an epic holiday party. Took me a while to decide on a party outfit but I am pretty happy with the below outcome. I sourced the green velvet dress (which has pockets I may add!) and gold sparkle T strap shoes from ModCloth.

The fur stole and 50's chain metal clasp purse I scored from an awesome little vintage shop here in the valley only a 5 min drive from my house called Moon Zoom. It's a treasure trove of affordable vintage from all era's including some pretty amazing 1920's and 30's dresses and accessories. So much stock to go through that I was in there for a good hour looking through their rooms of beautiful vintage! The fur stole is real fur and even though I am totally against fur trade, back in the 50's, it was much more accepted so I would rather be able to recycle something already made from 60yrs ago (that was the contraversial part).

I teamed up my party outfit with some curly bangs and a great NARS red lippy (colour: Heat Wave). The shoes were a bit hard to dance in as I don't usually wear such high heels and by the end of the evening I was ready to sit with a case of the throbbing heels. Really fun party though with great music and friends. Wishing everyone a happy and merry Christmas holiday filled with family, friends and laughs. This will be my last post for the year, so on to bigger and brighter things for the future of Ten/10 Vintage as we head into 2016! I'll be back in the new year so stay tuned <3
