I'm grateful to have experienced my first Northern hemisphere fall and with it comes so many beautiful warm colours of reds, burnt oranges, browns, yellows and mustard. The weather here in California is mild compared to other parts of the country. Many of the new fall dresses I ordered in when we arrived here in San Jose sold to customers wanting to prep for Thanksgiving and Christmas.
This fall, it seems the mustard colours are a hit. Lucky for me I had a few transeasonal pieces in my range which are now available to purchase in my Etsy shop.
Animal print popularity seems to be sneaking in there this season , with a large variety of animal print blouses. Many of the modern styles you see featured in your big name brand stores are styling many of their blouses and knitwear based on vintage looks. The vintage blouses featured here are made from a soft polyester and I find in the cooler temperatures, polyester is a comfortable fabric to wear (much better than wearing it in Summer as the vintage polyester does tend to make you sweat a bit!) The middle batwing chocolate mexican embroidered top is made from a soft cotton, perfect for layering too by adding a fitted long sleeve tee underneath and this works as the underarms don't pull at the sleeves.
The other on-trend look I've found for fall, is the comeback of the poncho / shawl and cape.
Again, many larger retailers here are marketing the plaid pattern look wrap / shawl. I have a few handmade knitted shawls which are a bit more "nanna" looking, but the soft acrylic yarns are sure to keep the shoulders warm, even if wearing it outside for short periods. My favourite poncho of my collection is a 1970's navy blue with apricot and pink embroidered flowers hippie poncho which I picked up a few years back here in California on my honeymoon (top left of below picture).
I had intended to keep it for myself but sadly, it's only ever sat in my cupboard! This is the issue when you are a vintage lover and hoarder of gorgeous things. One has too many outfits to possibly wear, and being a mum over the last 18 months has limited my practicality when it comes to dressing for everyday. The shawls and poncho's in the below photo are also available in my Etsy store and also in my Depop shop.
